Why Diaspora Capital Group?
Our organization was founded on the ideal that Africa’s Diaspora spread across the globe, majority in the United States and Western Europe should play a leading role in growing their countries of origin. There are an estimated one million Kenyans who live outside Kenya for example who are a formidable economic engine by way of remittances to families and friends back home. East Africa as a whole has an estimated three million plus living outside their countries of origin or as commonly referred to the Diaspora.
To date, there has not been a formal economic structure or platform upon which Africa’s Diaspora can channel their investments. Diaspora Capital Group is filling that void by providing a structured corporate platform for investors across the globe to invest in these economies. About 80% of the Diaspora’s remittances to their countries of origin are to relatives and families primarily for “consumption” for such consumables as clothing, food, tuition fees, weddings, etc. Only about 20% can be described or categorized ‘investments” earmarked for new businesses or construction. Diaspora Capital Group’s mission is to transform this consumerism model and redirect these vast diaspora resources into actual 80% investments and 20% consumerism.
